Strategy & Policy

Strategy = content + co-creation

A clear strategy is a precondition for achieving impact. But that doesn’t mean that every strategy leads to the desired result. In a continuously changing environment, a strategy has to be flexible and lead to renewal. A strategy is no longer static and requires constant attention. Without renewal or innovation, a strategy will not lead to sustainable success. That means there will be a huge risk that the enterprise will do more of the same, be insufficiently prepared, and surprised by changes in the market, society and the competitive battlefield.

Having a clear vision and a current, solid business analysis are therefore indispensible for the creation of a clear strategy. BeBright offers a concrete and applied approach in which various topics and tools are presented in a structured manner. Depending on the current situation and the needs of your organization, we help determine which aspects require most attention, and which aspects require less. Based on the current situation and the needs, we can help address topics such as identifying relevant trends and developments, future scenarios, vision development, market exploration, competitor analysis, customer and target audience profiles, portfolio analysis, financial analysis, stakeholder analysis, business model development, value proposition development and business planning.

6 building blocks for a supported strategy

With the BeBright approach, strategies are developed in a unique way. Increasingly, strategy building takes place in collaboration with relevant stakeholders instead of from behind a desk and behind closed doors. Like the vision, a strategy needs to be understood and supported by the organization. It also needs to be identifiable for those around you, and the customer in particular. Therefore, clear and pre-planned internal and external communication is of great importance.

Successful execution of the strategy; the real change; requires that a number of preconditions are met. These preconditions have to contribute to the desired or required transformation of the organization.

BeBright uses 6 building blocks for achieving impact and accelerating change:

  1. Creating a sense of urgency
  2. Building a ‘coalition of the willing’
  3. Starting a collaborative process
  4. Creating preconditions for action and measuring progress
  5. Celebrating achievements
  6. Consolidating innovation and impact

1. Creating a sense of urgency

Understanding what is going on around you; looking outside-in. This means determining relevant trends and developments in the market, and the way in which they affect your organization. In addition, you will determine who your relevant stakeholders or competitors are, now and in the future, and you will look at what your organization has to offer in terms leadership, assets, knowledge and expertise. Creating a sense of urgency is about having a shared view and/or starting point regarding how changes in your environment are relevant for your organization, the products and services you offer and the way in which you provide them.

2. Building a ‘coalition of the willing’

A new strategy and change won’t come about by sitting behind a laptop or by solely relying on an extensive strategy document that is written by a lone policy officer. Together, we look at who needs to be involved and what role they can fulfil in the development of strategy and policy. We look for the desired team dynamics as the development of strategy and policy requires a lot of energy, a critical but constructive attitude, and openness to discuss those issues that are relevant for the strategy of your organization.

3. Starting a collaborative process

Developing a strategy is something you do together. The end result alone, documented and substantiated in a presentation, does not make a strategy successful. For that reason, the strategy is developed during a process in which members of staff of your organization are involved. We take you through a number of steps to help you to develop a new strategy or to reassess your current one. We provide you with the tools that enable you to determine the strategy and to modify it in the future.

4. Creating preconditions for action and measuring progress

Strategy has to result in change. We help you to turn a strategy into a concrete agenda for change. Together we determine what is needed in terms of required knowledge and expertise, organization design, process design, product and service innovation, etc. We support you in creating business plans and the translation of these plans into concrete actions and schedules for your organization. We can also provide you with the tools to effectively monitor progress and measure the added value. This makes it possible to modify the strategy and/or its implementation due to a changing environment.

5. Celebrating achievements

A successful and vital organization is also characterized by the celebration of achievements. This means you need to define ahead of time what you want to achieve and when. Essential to this is careful business planning, the involvement of people from all levels of the organization, and clear communication about progress: points of concern, but especially achievements.

6. Consolidating innovation and impact

A strategy needs to be dynamic nowadays. It can no longer be valid for five years. This means that in addition to monitoring progress, constant attention needs to be paid to what is happening in the outside world and relevant to your organization. We offer you tools to monitor progress and measure impact (SROI, ROI) but also to create a learning organization together that will be able to deal with continuous change.

BeBright has a broad background and experience in processes aimed at strategy building.
